WEEKEND RECAP OCT 14 to 16 2022

A pair of victories this weekend gives Burlington a five game winning streak. On Friday night, the Cougars rolled into Oakville for the second instalment of the Battle of Burloak.

Jax Bellwood got the scoring started for Burlington, Thomas Lenart potted a pair of goals, and blue liner Conner Thomson-Dick scored a power play marker, giving the Cougars a 4–1 lead in the third period.

Oakville got a couple goals late, but couldn’t find the equalizer, falling 4-3. Burlington goaltender Max Wright made 21 saves.

“Two points is two points,” said forward Thomas Lenart. Oakville and Burlington combined for 57 penalty minutes. “We didn’t play our best in the third period.”

On Sunday, the Cougars travelled to Markham with just 17 skaters. Burlington scored 12 goals, a season high, and each skater tallied at least one point. Goaltender Zach Dietz made 18 saves on 22 shots in the 12-4 blowout.

“We started off the season not how we wanted to. The last two games have really brought everyone’s confidence back,” said blue liner Nathaniel Davis. “Really looking forward to three games this weekend.”

Burlington will take their five game winning streak into this weekend with a three-in-three starting Friday night in Aurora. Cougars will then travel to Stouffville and Brantford to close out the weekend.

The Cougars will look to put a good grip on third place in the North-West Conference if they continue their winning ways this weekend.
