Muhn returns to action in Cougars’ shutout win

By: Michael Willoughby

Inspired by Lucas Muhn’s return, goaltender Carter Vicente made 29 saves, leading the Burlington Cougars to a 3-0 shutout win against the Caledon Admirals Friday night at Central Arena.

Calder Anderson opened the scoring for the Cougars with his second goal of the season from Joshua Pinchak and George Matsos at the 2:51 mark of the first period. The Cougars doubled their lead on the power play at 7:36 as Max Morin scored his second of the season from Reid Forster and Colin Ronalds. The Cougars went 1-for-4 on the powerplay in the game.

With 59 seconds remaining in the second period, Forster scored his second of the season from Ronalds and Joseph Febrillet, giving the Cougars a commanding 3-0 lead. From there, Vicente and the Cougars’ defence subdued the Admirals, including a successful 6-for-6 penalty kill, en route to a 3-0 win.

Speaking to Cougars broadcaster Phil Edmunds after the game, Vicente said Muhn’s return was a much-needed lift for the team, and the importance of getting the kind of performance after a tough start to the season.

“Yeah, you know it’s great. He’s a huge part of this team, and we use him in many aspects, not just in the room. He’s a great guy on the ice. He’s a great guy, overall. He’s an amazing asset to our team, and it’s great to have him back,” Vicente said.

“It was good. We got off to a hot start, and I think we just rode that momentum all the way through and got a good game.”

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday as they host the Lindsay Muskies at Central Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
